Anthony Joshua lays it all down – Joshua v Povetkin

Saturday night is the big day for the heavy weight bout between Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin at the Wembley stadium in London. Joshua is ranked number 1 while Povetkin is ranked number 3 in their division by Rings Magazine. Anthony Joshua holds four major heavyweight belts – IBF (top right), WBO (top left), IBO (bottom left) and WBA (bottom right) with WBC belt as the missing title as it is being held by Deontay Wilder. Joshua heads into this bout with a sterling record in 21 fights (21-0; 20 KOs) while Povetkin has more knock-outs in 35 fights (34-1; 24 KOs).
The Russian is Joshua’s mandatory challenger and the Briton will be defending his four titles which are on the line for this bout. Joshua is seen the real champion in the heavyweight division since his 2017 victory over Klitschko. Since he won gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, Anthony has made giants strides in boxing ring with his superb technique and heavy punches. Just like Joshua, Povetkin announced himself to the boxing arena at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games where he won gold. He is an excellent boxer whose only career loss is to Klitschko in 35 fights. However, his career has been tainted a bit with failed drug tests.

What should we expect?
At age 39, Povetkin has lost some his pace and power and his last major fight was in 2015. His only defeat was against Klitschko who Joshua knocked out last year. Even at the twilight of his career, the Russian will be a tough opponent for Anthony Joshua who has a longer reach at 82” compared to Povetkin’s 75” reach. Joshua jabs are no joke and he would be expected to use to his advantage. Would it be a knock out or technical decision? That’s the million dollar question but we are tipping Joshua to keep his zero loss record intact.
