2019-20 NBA season preview

The new NBA season, 2019-20 – the 74th season tipped off on Tuesday night. When did we watch Toronto Raptors wrestle the title of the Golden State Warriors? Time does travel fast and, in a flash, we are in for a new exciting season. For the first time in what feels like ages, there’s no true runaway favorite entering the season. The Warriors are no longer the big bad waiting at the end of each campaign.

Here is a dialogue between yours truly and an NBA fan, a huge one – Osa B. Osa is a die-hard San Antonio Spurs, she is in love with Tony Parker and your guess is as good as mine. She is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Below is our short discussion on the new NBA season and here is what she thinks. Enjoy it. Yours truly is Lako while Osa goes with Osa B

Lako: Can LA Clippers go all the way with Paul George and Kawhi? There seem to be a feeling like Clippers are well equipped….

Osa B: Clippers have assembled a pretty solid squad with a lot of depth coming off the bench. Retaining former 6th man Lou Williams, is going to be key to uniting the team. They’re going to start the first few weeks of the season without George, so it’ll be interesting to see them fall into a new rhythm without one of their main stars.

Lako: Can Lebron James teaming up with Anthony Davis help restore Lakers pride and glory days?

Osa B: LeBron and Anthony David’s linking up is going to be an explosive combination. The Lakers starting lineup with Davis, LeBron, McGee and Howard look to be quite the formidable big man squad. Any three of those playing healthy in a lineup, is going to force other teams to change how they play in the post. I expect this team to go far, if they stay healthy, and the Lakers rookies have a bit role to play. This is LeBron’s 15th year, so production might not be at a high level like it used to.

Lako: Are these your league best duos: Anthony Davis and Lebron, Kawhi and Paul George, James Harden and Westbrook, Durant and Kyrie?

Osa B: These four duos for sure will have the spotlight this season.

Lako: What is life like at Golden State Warriors after Durant’s exit to Brooklyn Nets?

Osa B: Golden State in my opinion is going to be exposed this season. No Durant, and it’s looking like no Klay Thompson for the whole season either. It’s back to 2012 Era Warriors, the entire team relying on a Steph Curry. Curry and Green have a lot to prove, and at the same time nothing to prove, because the attention has shifted seat from them this year. Perhaps this is the end of that dynasty.

Lako: Can Toronto Raptors retain their title? Were they surprise winners last season or it’s time to consider them as a team to fear and respect?

Osa B: With how much things have shaken up in the off season, I don’t see the Raptors going all the way to another Championship. The West has gotten so much stronger, unfortunately with the help of their star player departing to go to the Clippers. They managed to keep their young core together of Lowry, Siakam and VanFleet, so now that everyone is paying attention, it’ll be nice to see what those guys can achieve on their own.

Lako: Who will win both conferences; The East and the West?

Osa B: Definitely no clear contenders in either direction. Early favorites for both conferences: Houston for the West. Probably Bucks for the East. But there’s still the newly minted Clippers and Lakers in tow in the West. I actually think the East is the one that’ll be the shocker this year, can’t sleep on Philadelphia – Ben Simmons found his jumpshot over the summer, maybe that was the missing piece for them. I feel them and the Bucks have the most to prove, after coming so close with teams that are so young and have so much talent. Perhaps Kyrie can finally position himself lead a team this year, while we await Durant’s return. The possibilities are endless.
